COVID-19 3/5/2021 Update
With restrictions easing and/or changing for localities in California and Nevada, the Nevada Area Council is prepared to ease restrictions. In some localities restrictions may not be easing. Please make sure you continue to follow all local, state, and federal guidelines. Please understand until further notice you will need to ensure you have your unit’s Key 3 (Charter Representative, Unit Leader, and Committee Chair) complete the COVID-19 Nevada Area Council Training video that is online. You will also be required to have completed and submitted the Key 3 Compliance Agreement form to RiskManagement@Nevadabsa.org. The unit is then also required to have on file a Personal Consent Form for each person that may attend anything related to Scouting. These forms and the training can be found at www.nevadabsa.org/covid. We know that meeting outside and doing activities outside has less risks for the spread of COVID-19. We encourage you to get outside and go have fun. If you can do camping safely please feel free to go camping. We do have some restrictions at this time when camping. Travel should not include mixing of families or households in a vehicle unless you plan on practicing social distancing and wearing a mask the entire time which is difficult since this is not feasible with many vehicles when sitting in the vehicle. Travel between localities may mean you encounter new restrictions. Families and households should not mix when staying in tents. If you plan to not use tents then you should apply social distancing when sleeping with a 10ft distance between people. With this ease of Nevada Area Council’s restrictions, if you feel you can meet safely indoors please feel free to have fun and meet if this is permissible to your local restrictions. Information as it pertains to restrictions for Nevada can be found on this page with Nevada Health Response governor directives and declarations and for California on this page with CA Industry Guidance to Reduce Risk. There are many different pages that may help and apply to situations you may be trying to figure out as you plan out an activity. We encourage you to refer to this page and also with the CDC Physical Activity, Sports, and Recreation page as we continue to follow all local, state, and federal guidelines. These may not be your only resource for guidance online and if you have question please feel free to ask riskmanagement@nevadabsa.org. The Boy Scouts of America has setup a COVID-19 website that provides guidance and some of these great resources: As you choose to meet, remember to make sure you tell people that feel sick to stay home, to wash your hands frequently, to make hand sanitizer available, to wear a mask, and to practice social distancing. If you have a situation that arises with COVID-19 please make sure to complete the Incident Report and notify the Scout Office. Please remember, not only is this COVID-19 training needed for your Key 3 but all leaders in your unit should be trained with Youth Protection Training and position specific training. Please see this list of trainings required for your position. For any questions and thoughts please direct them to riskmanagement@nevadabsa.org.
Yours in Scouting,
Nevada Area Council, Risk Management Committee
