Mystery Hike Activity

We're excited to share a project initiated by ASM Rob DeHaan & his son earlier this year as a fun outdoor activity for members of Troop 443.

Essentially it is a 5-mile hike and scavenger hunt modeled on the game, Clue. This is a great activity for any Troop! Scouts use some orienteering and map/compass skills and need to have some basic Scout knowledge in order to solve some of the puzzles. Completing the hike will fulfill a rank requirement and will, hopefully, make the process a little more fun!

Here are the Mystery Hike Instructions for Units who would like to make it their own. Mr. DeHaan based this hike on one that was created by another Scouter in California and she is appropriately credited in the document. He took her idea and turned it up a notch! We hope this provides a useful and fun activity for other Scouts! Mr. DeHaan hopes to create another course in the future if this one is well received, perhaps with the help of the Pah Rah chapter of the Order of the Arrow. We'll keep you posted!
